Analyst Actions: Aphria Price Target Cut at CIBC After Disappointing Q3, Ahead of Tilray Merger Vote
BY MT Newswires
10:24 AM ET 04/13/2021
10:24 AM EDT, 04/13/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Aphria Inc. APHA shares rebounded slightly on Tuesday following a sharp selloff to start the week as the Canadian cannabis producer's third quarter results disappointed.

CIBC World Markets analyst John Zamparo maintained an Outperformer rating on the stock, and lowered his price target to $23 from $28.

He believes Monday's selloff of as much as 14% was overdone.

Aphria APHA shareholders will vote on a proposed merger with Tilray Inc. on Wednesday.

"(Monday's) focus from management on voter encouragement suggests that there is at least some uncertainty on whether the proposed APHA-TLRY deal passes on its first attempt," Zamparo said in a note to clients. "We expect the biggest hurdle is attaining the required quorum for TLRY (50.1% of shares outstanding must vote)."

"To be clear, we believe the deal eventually closes and creates an industry leader with potential for $100 Million of synergies and a highly profitable entity with a leading share in Canada and Europe," the analyst said. "This continues to be an industry that thrives on brick & mortar sales, and store restrictions have had a meaningful impact, which we expect to ebb by the summer."

Aphria APHA shares rose $0.68, or 3.9%, to $18.15 on Tuesday in Toronto Stock Exchange trading.
