Re: Question - Russia//VG Why do you think Trump refuses to publish his tax returns? I could think of several legitimate reasons.... 1) The law doesn't require it. (a biggie!) 2) He is currently in litigation or negotiation with the IRS about his prior year tax returns (highly likely!) and publicizing it just increases the scrutiny on the returns which can ONLY go against him. (I'm sure various DNC-funded accountants would love to comb over his returns and provide advice to the IRS on what to challenge!) 3) He doesn't want his business rivals (or even partners or the public) to know his true financial worth and/or assets as his business image might take a blow. Alternately you certainly could be correct that there could be something wrong with the tax returns and it MIGHT show a Russian connection or underpayment of taxes in one or more years. (Even a business titan such as Buffett has tax disputes with the IRS.) Ultimately it comes down the fact that there is NO REAL UPSIDE for Trump to voluntarily releasing them. Even if there is nothing there regarding Russia...the media will predictably take the info to spin how Trump has inflated his net worth or legally used various tax code loopholes to reduce his tax rate....or something else. The problem that most Trump haters have is that they jump at the chance to believe the worst....even without ANY evidence. Frankly, a lot of Obama and Clinton haters react the same way but the Obama/Clinton haters never controlled 80% of the U.S. mainstream media nor were they semi-isolationists (which alienates many socialist allies (and international press) which depend on the U.S.) nor were they as prone to violence as the left. The right-wing haters were relegated to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh...which the rest of the media ridiculed mercilessly despite their "slant" representing the view of much larger percentage of the electorate than Fox's ratings ever reflected.) Lots of smoke....which is why I actually support a special prosecutor....but despite the fact that 80% of the gov't apparatus is still AGAINST Trump given the threat he represents to their bureaucratic interests...and all the leaks..there have been no real bombshells which have stuck. In contrast, the Clinton investigation (which not surprisingly never seemed to go anywhere under Comey) has plenty of evidence (including deliberate destruction of evidence and deliberate avoidance of gov't regulations regarding record keeping....and provable 'incompetence' by the FBI itself) providing even better evidence of fire...yet couldn't even reach the formal stage. Someone here correctly stated that my identification of Seth Rich as the DNC leaker wasn't proven....and they were RIGHT. It's not proven. It is still alleged at this point...and although there are A LOT of pointers (his access to the DNC emails via his position, his murder immediately after the emails were released, John Podesta's email wanting to "make an example" of the leaker, Jullian Assange's reward offer for info regarding the murder of Seth, and one of the previous reported middleman coming out today and acknowledging that he helped Seth provide the info to Wikileaks) all of which logically lead to Seth's door (rather than the Russians)...it's still alleged only. However...DESPITE it being alleged only....I consider myself smart enough to connect the dots and come to the KISS solution (keep it simple stupid!). VG |
