Re: I don't believe the FDA is totally blind to results
Ernie,
You could write volumes on all the information virtually all the biotech's and pharma's don't make public. Changes of the sort that have been made in the trial certainly had the okay of some authority, perhaps a few of them. The latest FDA guidance is leading toward more flexible trials, I cannot say if the FDA is involved themselves, or allow the clinicians and DSMB to agree to the changes, but clearly the clinicians don't do it alone.
I know investors in all sorts of biotech's, etc. believe the company should tell them everything they do, patents filed, trials initiated, etc. People think of these things as Material Events, even though they carry no money unless they're milestones specified in a partnership. It's not impossible to put out PR's on such events, but most companies don't do it, if it does bring in substantial funds, then they are required to issue information. Dr. Liau is frankly more open to discussing what she's doing than many of the lead clinicians involved in trials I've followed.
