Selling at 8% down

While I dont disagree with keebon about selling losers, depending on defining what a loser is, I disagree with automatic sells when a given stock drops 8%. I think thats the IBD strategy, its performance being almost impossible to track due to constant change. I think its a bs strategy. QCOM is my second largest individual holding, having bought it when out of favor and a dividend approaching 4% as best I remember. Well, it dropped 20% a few months ago and has puttered around the last five months. Today, up 5+ %, and I fully anticipate it eventually blow thru its previous high. I hope to hold the stock practically forever, compounding all the way. You could say: why didnt you sell early at the correction & buy back later. Two reasons, thats not my style and, secondly, I had substantial capital gains I did not want to realize.
