My guess is, you don't necessarily. You might however want the immune system to think cancer cells are infected with an intracellular parasite, which listeria is. This might be related to why the treatment seems to reduce tregs and MDSCs: the need for the immune system to destroy otherwise-healthy cells infected with parasites.
I've posed this hypothesis to IR without a response. Perhaps I ought to take them up on their offer to speak with Dr. Petit.
