Quantitative Foundation donates $120M to UVA"The University of Virginia will use the largest private donation in its history to create a School of Data Science. Charlottesville investor Jaffray Woodriff has donated $120 million from the private 501(c)(3) Quantitative Foundation to support the school, which UVa says is one of the first in the country to focus specifically on data science. The school is set to announce the gift Friday morning." Further notes on where the $$ came from... "Woodriff is a 1991 graduate of UVa’s McIntire School of Commerce. He is also cofounder and CEO of Quantitative Investment Management, a $3 billion hedge fund based in Charlottesville. His wife, Merrill Woodriff, directs the Quantitative Foundation. She received a bachelor’s degree from UVa’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and a master’s from the Curry School of Education. In addition to the $120 million grant announced Friday, the Quantitative Foundation previously has given more than $30 million to UVa, including a $10 million grant used to establish the Data Science Institute." |
