She is now alongside 4 SS's owned by related Seadrill (NYSE, OSE: SDRL) the 2011 HE-SS Pegasus, 2008 BE-SS Taurus, 2000 HE-SS (but not UDW) Venture and the famous Russian Rosneft/Exxon used in Russian arctic waters rig 1986 HE-SS (but not UDW) West Alpha.
Skipavika is the yard from where Seadrill's 2008 HE-SS's Hercules and Phoenix were re-activated from their prior stacked mode.
During Seadrill Partners' 1Q19 conference call on 5/31/19 management was asked about the re-contracting prospects on West Leo. Answer stated was that it is cold-stacked, not being marketed, and that management is evaluating what it would cost to put her in to the HE marketplace, and said dayrates need to be higher to justify the HE expense, which they said could cost ~$50 million to take her in to the UK-NS market. West Leo previously operated in Ghana's West African waters, despite being built as an HE-SS. I suspect the situation is similar to Seadrill's slightly older West Pegasus, which previously operated in the Mexican side of GOM for PEMEX, despite also being built for HE usage. T.D.
