WorleyParsons joins Kanfa in PNG FLNG

Australia's WorleyParsons and Norway's Kanfa Aragon have been awarded the topsides front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the Elk-Antelope floating liquefied natural gas project in Papua New Guinea.

Russell Searancke 31 May 2011 02:55 GMT

Project proponent Flex LNG said WorleyParsons and Kanfa would do the topsides FEED, while Samsung Heavy Industries - already earmarked as the fabricator of the FLNG vessel - will do FEED work on the hull.

Flex said FEED is scheduled to be completed in time for the project to reach a final investment decision before the end of this year, with start-up targeted for 2014.

The FLNG vessel is expected to be moored alongside a jetty and have a nominal production capacity of close to 2 million tonnes per annum of LNG. No gas sales agreements are in place yet.

Flex LNG chief executive Philip Fjeld said the FLNG project in PNG was "a game-changing development for his company, and "the level of intensity in the interest from LNG offtakers as well as potential project partners has positively surprised us".

The project would use gas from InterOil's Elk-Antelope gas field as feedstock. Pacific LNG and Liquid Niugini Gas are also parties to the FLNG project.
