Summary

Natural gas consumption in China jumped up to a historical high of 10.7 billion cubic feet per day in April, increasing by 34 percent over one year ago. Abnormally low temperatures in northern China played a major role.
Natural gas demand is expected to continue staying very strong in May and months ahead, when indigenous gas resource development and natural gas inflows from Turkmenistan and LNG receiving terminals are moving high.
Analysis

Natural gas consumption in China jumped up to a historical high of 10.7 billion cubic feet per day in April, when temperatures were abnormally low in northern China, extending winter heating in North and Northeast China. The Shanghai World Expo promotion also boosted natural gas applications in East China.Natural gas demand growth reached 34 percent in April.
Although entering a relatively weak gas demand season in spring, China's natural gas demand is expected to stay very strong in May and months ahead, when indigenous gas resource development and natural gas inflows from Turkmenistan and LNG receiving terminals are moving high. Gas-fueled automobiles and gas chemicals are expected to display extremely strong increases.
