It won't be as easy to dump their copper. Centurylink's residential + small business services utilize equipment that is at the same location as their enterprise grade equipment (and lines).
If they do sell off their copper, they're going to either have to take sizeable hits to their enterprise locations/equipment, or have extensive and complex co-location agreements.
The company they hired to look into this came back and told them it was possible, but not without decreasing the value of the spin off company and harming the overall assets and value of Centurylink/Lumen, itself.
Judging by the refocus though, and especially with the rebranding, though, they might think it's ultimately worth it.
