Weekly US gas use inches up 0.2% as weather stays hot across countryfrom SNL Daily Gas Report Weekly US gas use inches up 0.2% as weather stays hot across countryByline: Tim Siccion Total natural gas consumption in the U.S. inched up 0.2% during the week ended July 27 as weather remained hot throughout the country, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in its "Natural Gas Weekly Update" released July 28. U.S. gas consumption increased slightly to 74.1 Bcf/d from 74.0 Bcf/d a week ago. Power sector demand averaged 43.3 Bcf/d, down from 43.4 Bcf/d in the previous week. Industrial demand remained unchanged from 21.0 Bcf/d a week ago. Residential and commercial demand ticked up to 9.8 Bcf/d from 9.6 Bcf/d a week prior. Total gas demand averaged 97.5 Bcf/d, down from 97.8 Bcf/d a week ago. This includes exports to Mexico, pipeline fuel use or losses, and liquefied natural gas pipeline receipts. Eighteen LNG vessels with a total capacity of 67 Bcf left the U.S. between July 21 and July 27, the EIA said, citing shipping data from Bloomberg Finance LP. A week ago, 16 LNG vessels with a total capacity of 61 Bcf left the country. Of the 18 vessels, seven departed from Cheniere Energy Inc.'s Sabine Pass export terminal in Louisiana, four came from Cheniere's Corpus Christi facility in Texas, three left from Sempra's Cameron facility in Louisiana, two came from Venture Global LNG's Calcasieu Pass terminal in Louisiana and one each came from Dominion Energy Inc.'s Cove Point terminal in Maryland and Kinder Morgan Inc.'s Elba Island LNG export terminal in Georgia. The Freeport LNG Development LP terminal near Houston has been shut down since a fire broke out at the facility June 8. It is not expected to fully resume operations until late 2022. Total U.S. gas supply averaged 102.8 Bcf/d for the week, up slightly from 102.7 Bcf/d a week prior. Marketed production averaged 108.9 Bcf/d, up from the prior week's 108.7 Bcf/d. Dry production averaged 96.7 Bcf/d, up from the previous week's 96.6 Bcf/d. Net imports from Canada averaged 6.0 Bcf/d, unchanged from a week ago. During the week ended July 22, net injections into storage totaled 15 Bcf, down from the five-year average build of 32 Bcf and up from the previous year's 38 Bcf injection. Working gas stocks totaled 2,416 Bcf, down 345 Bcf from the five-year average and 293 Bcf lower than values reported during the same week a year ago. |
