Surprising but apparently they were able to cherry pick only the best assets of Signature to acquire. The undesirable portions remain in receivership.
Do they cross the threshold? I would think so but the rules were adjusted so I'm not certain
"Congress Approves First Big Dodd-Frank Rollback, The New York Times
May 22, 2018 — The changes would relax federal oversight of banks with assets of less than $250 billion, including a requirement that such institutions face so ..."
When I said they were teetering on the brink of triggering increased oversight that was many years ago. When Cramer was talking about it, it was paying a dividend with 7% yield and a big portion of profit was going to dividends. Their assets were well below $50 billion when the original Dodd-Frank bill was passed. But they crept up to close to $50B and the crazy high dividend would have to disappear if they crossed it. $50B is no longer the trigger since Dodd-Frank was amended.
