Would you be so kind and post this message on Schuler the Characater Assassin website FixElan, the glimmermen have me blocked, thank youWould you be so kind and post this message on Schuler the Characater Assassin website FixElan, the glimmermen have me blocked, thank you To the general public who disapprove of Jack W. Schuler with his setting up of FixElan which would be better named as FixKellyMartin as it's modus operandi is the character assassination of the good business name of Kelly Martin CEO Elan. I, like you all, believe in free open discussion about Elan the company and it's management. This is not the case with Jack Schuler. Schuler's FixElan is a one sided campaign of vilification of the good name of Kelly Martin CEO Elan. My attempts to challenge Schuller's fascist dirty tricks by posting comments have met with the removal of all my posts by the glimmermen by order of the Schuler. This is not just the matter of standing up for the good name of Kelly Martin CEO Elan, it goes further, this is about the democratic right to free speech. Please take this opportunity to express your opinion on the dictatorial tactics of Jack Schuler. My posting no longer make the FixElan page, so I call on the good people to copy this page and post it at the various comments sections at FixElan - Link http://www.fixelan.com/blog/ Jack Schuler - Demands Good Character as requirement for Schuler Family Foundation funding, yet in business continues a character assassination of Kelly Martin CEO Elan By GR on Feb 13, 2009 | Reply By GR on Feb 12, 2009 | Reply Would Bill and Mary Lou Schuler approve of their son Jack besmirching the reputation of Elan CEO Kelly Martin - I don’t think that is part of the American Dream Schuler Family Foundation/Schuler Scholar Program History Launched in 2001 by Jack Schuler and daughter Tanya Schuler Sharman, the Schuler Scholar Program (SSP) was originally conceived as a vehicle for the Schuler Family Foundation to provide college scholarship assistance to bright, motivated high school students in order for them to matriculate to selective, private colleges and universities. Waukegan High School was soon selected as a partner and in 2002 two college scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors. St. Martin de Porres High School came on board in 2004 and shortly thereafter the program evolved to include providing high school academic support and enrichment programs designed to prepare the scholars for the rigors of a selective college. In 2006 SSP partnered with Round Lake High School and in 2008 the first class of Schuler Scholars was selected at Warren Township High School. The true genesis of the program came from Jack’s parents, Bill and Mary Lou Schuler. While in his twenties, Bill Schuler came to the US from Switzerland in search of a better life. While he had little money and no family in the state, he did have one thing - an education. Armed with a degree he sought to live the American Dream - build a good life for himself and his family. Mary Lou also valued education. During a time when education was not a priority for women, she and her sister both held a masters degree. Bill and Mary Lou serve as the inspiration for the Schuler family and it was in honor of their memory that the Schuler Scholar Program was created. The Program aims to serve young people who, regardless of their family’s country of origin, like Bill Schuler, want to realize their dreams. The SSP aims to do so by assisting them in their effort to graduate from college. The Schuler Scholar Program is funded soley by the Schuler Family Foundation. The Schuler Family Foundation does not accept requests for grants to other organizations By GR on Feb 13, 2009 | Reply By GR on Feb 9, 2009 Reply from GR to Jack Schuler; Jack, you may be speaking from a position of owning 5.5 million Elan shares, that does not mean you are better qualified in your downright negative assessment of CEO Kelly Martin. Who do you suggest would have done a better job at sorting out Elan’s financial crises post Geaney ( a pharmacist ! ). Do you feel the same way about Jeffrey Kindler CEO Pfizer, from a Legal background. Both Kelly Martin and Jeffrey Kindler come from a background with responsibilities of heads of divisions of worldwide leading companies. Elan’s pharmaceutical staff have always been world leaders be it EDT or the neurological sciences. What was the point in reinventing the wheel. You negative comments are a slur on the world class researchers at Elan. If you are talking about sales and the promoting of drugs, that a separate matter. As you claim to familiar with the selling pharmaceuticals part of the business, you will know it is a constantly changing business, and Elan like others attempts to forseee and adapt. So,after Kelly Martin successfully guided Elan though the financial abyss, Elan after the necessary divestitures, found itself relying on the new wonderdrug TYSABRI to keep us afloat, to pay for the substantial funds needed to for Elan’s committments in R&D in Alzheimer’s as a joint partner with Wyeth. This was done and has continued even with the withdrawal of TYSABRI after the PML cases, yet, Kelly Martin was there to take control. There was no delay, no obfuscation, he showed his true leadership qualities. Elan cut back and went into survival mode, EDT continued to deliver, that was not sold off, many others would have sold it in panic mode, Kelly did not. That was Elan’s lifeblood. Our R&D was kept together. Elan’s top researchers were happy to stay. That’s why we are alive today and able to talk about Elan it’s products and its rich potential. Jack, Pfizer has a pocketful of Alzheimer’s compounds. If you really took the time to familiarize yourself with Elan’s Alzheimer’s compounds, you would not make such an assinine comment that Elan’s Alzheimer’s compounds and R&D could be buried by Pfizer with one of it’s compounds. Why would you prefer symptomatics to disease modifyers. Jack, somebody is not keeping you informed, I told you Elan has the best Alzheimer’s R&D bar none. As regards Elan’s relationship with Biogen, who do you think had the best hand of cards with the TYSABRI troubles, sometimes you have to wait your turn. Jack, Kelly martin can handle any issue, he has experience and will utilise the skills of his team be it intellectual property, General Counsel, pharmaceuticals. Take another look at Elan’s management, heads of departments. How many of those people were with Elan five years ago. Jack, Elan under Kelly Martin, has continued to bring in the best on all fronts and I expect that it has in plan the necessary changes to meet the demands in two years time the ( don’t wish to tempt fate too much) approval of bapineuzumab. Jack , What about your qualifications (ever don the white coat) more like the (oilskin) to me. 67 Years Old Jack W. Schuler has served as our Chairman of the Board of Directors since January 1990. From January 1987 to August 1989, Mr. Schuler served as president and chief operating officer of Abbott Laboratories, a diversified health care company, where he served as a director from April 1985 to August 1989. Mr. Schuler serves as a director of Medtronic, Inc., a medical technology company, and Quidel Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of point-of-care diagnostic tests. He is a co-founder of Crabtree Partners LLC, a private investment firm in Lake Forest, Illinois, which was formed in June 1995. Mr. Schuler received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University and a M.B.A. degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Administration. Kelly Martin does not deserve the scorn of Jack Schuler. I expect Ned Johnson has took the time to acquaint himself with the historical events at Elan, and with this knowledge retains his wholesome confidence in Kelly Martin. Schuler, the president and chief operating officer of Abbott Laboratories, resigned yesterday over ”differences in philosophy” with Robert A. Schoellhorn, Abbott’s chairman and chief executive, a spokesman for the $5 billion diversified health-care concern said. Mr. Schoellhorn announced Mr. Schuler’s departure after the latest of several stormy meetings of Abbott’s board and said he would immediately assume the added responsibilities as chief operating officer. Mr. Schuler, who built up a diagnostic-testing business that has made an important contribution to Abbott’s earnings, had strong supporters on the board, according to a person close to the conflict who asked to be anonymous. He said Mr. Schoellhorn had demanded that the board choose ”me or him.” No. 3 in Line ”Jack Schuler was No. 3 in the line of people that Mr. Schoellhorn didn’t find acceptable,” said James L. Vincent, chairman of Biogen Inc., a biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Mass. ”I was the first, and Kirk Raab was the second.” Mr. Vincent resigned as chief operating officer of Abbott in 1981 after nine years with the company, which is based in Abbott Park, Ill. Mr. Raab left as president of Abbott January 1985 and became president of the San Francisco-based Genentech Inc. the following month. Mr. Schuler, who had been executive vice president at Abbott, became president in January 1987. ”Jack Schuler is probably one of the classiest executives I’ve ever had working for me,” Mr. Vincent said. Neither Mr. Schoellhorn nor Mr. Schuler could be reached for comment Friday. ‘A Little Perplexed’ ”I’m honestly a little perplexed,” said Mimi Willard, a health-care analyst at Shearson Lehman Hutton securities. ”I’m disappointed to see Jack Schuler go. But Mr. Schoellhorn is 61, so he will have four years to work on a succession plan.” Kenneth S. Abramowitz of Sanford C. Bernstein & Company, said, ”Schuler was a risk-taker, a good man to have at the top of a company, but Abbott is not lacking in talent, so I’m sure they will find somebody talented to replace him.” Abbott reported net income increased 15 percent in the first half of 1989, compared with the 1988 period. Abbott closed at $62.25, down $1, on the New York Stock Exchange, before the announcement of Mr. Schuler’s resignation. Elan, was always prone to uncertainty even at the best of times, because of our debt burden, over reliance on Tysabri uptake, then to be clobbered with the PML cases. Beyond all this, the longtime Elan shareholders were prepared to see Elan’s Alzheimer’s pipeline make progress. The withdrawal of Tysabri could have distroyed Elan and handed over the Alzheimer’s pipeline as salvage to one of the now pipeline starved big boys.
