GE books debut Cypress deal in Turkey

GE Renewable Energy has signed a deal to supply turbines to the 138MW Saros wind farm in Turkey, its first firm order for the new Cypress platform in the market.

The US manufacturer has inked the deal for 27 of the 5.XMW units with 158-metre rotors with developer Borusan EnBW Energji.

GE will produce two-piece blades for the project at an LM Wind Power manufacturing site in Bergama in Izmir, Turkey. Towers will also be produced locally.

A ten-year service agreement is included.

No delivery or commissioning schedule has been disclosed.

Borusan EnBW Enerji general manager Mehmet Acarla said: We are determined to realize our vision of harnessing the renewable energy resources of our country and becoming the industry leader in wind energy. Our Saros WPP project is an expression of this commitment.

GE Turkey chief Manar Al-Moneef added: GE is very proud to bring additional wind energy and to invest in localization and job creation to contribute to the development of renewable industry in Turkey. Our goal is to help our customers drive energy costs down every day, and our Cypress platform is ideally suited to make the best use of the countrys wind speed and landscape. 2019 Global Data Point.
