Re: Rigzone Deepwater Horizon Analysis - Open for Comments

Looking for the well bore schematic.  The link did not provide an image of the actual casing program as run.  This being an exploratory well, drilling for a single amplitude target, I would imagine the top of the target was defined by a geophysicist.  The gross interval, top of expected pay to base of expected pay, would have also been also 3D defined. The planned TD  & actual TD would have included enough extra hole such that the logging would have found out if the pay interval was pay on water or full to base.  Earlier, I got the impression open hole logs were not run.  LWD was likely the tool of choice & no indication of cores being taken.  Likely a very obvious amplitude event was tested, likely covering ~1000 acres, given the 100 MBO discovery that was noted.  The well proved the prospect, defined adequate (economic) reserves, set pipe, TA the well & move the rig off.  All this assumes the cement plug(s) was given adequate time to set up before the drilling mud (16# is no overwhelming pressure regime) was replaced with sea water.  I get the feeling, time, @ $1 MM/day was the cause of shortcuts that cost 11 lives.  That or a very faulty BOP, but the need to shear off everyhting should have never occurred.
