Chevron to restart train 2 of Australia's Gorgon LNG plant in early September from SNL Daily Gas Report Chevron to restart train 2 of Australia's Gorgon LNG plant in early SeptemberByline: Amanda Luhavalja Chevron Corp. plans to restart train 2 at the Gorgon LNG plant in northwest Australia sometime in early September once repairs are complete, a company spokesperson said in a July 28 email. The maintenance on train 2 started on May 23 after a routine inspection of the train's propane heat exchangers during planned maintenance identified weld quality issues, spokesman Cameron Van Ast said. There are eight exchangers on the processing train. Production from Gorgon LNG trains 1 and 3 continues at normal rates, and the company is delivering LNG and domestic gas under its contractual commitments with customers, Van Ast added. Gorgon, one of the world's largest natural gas projects, can produce 15.6 million tonnes of LNG a year, according to the company. Spot North Asian LNG prices were recently on the rise, increasing 2 cents/MMBtu on July 21, with September delivery Platts Japan Korea Marker being assessed at $2.483/MMBtu. Chevron subsidiary Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd. serves as project operator with 47.3% ownership in the Gorgon project. Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC each have a 25% stake in Gorgon, while Osaka Gas has a 1.25% interest and Tokyo Gas Co.Ltd. a 1% stake. |
