0848 ET - Brazilian miner Vale SAs' 3Q earnings fell short of forecasts because the price the company got for iron ore fell more than estimated, said Jefferies analyst Christopher LaFemina in a research note. The Rio de Janeiro-based company on Thursday after the close reported net income from continuing operations of $4.5B in the period, from $5.5B a year earlier. Lower prices and higher costs pressured margins in the quarter, but costs should begin to decline in coming months while prices are likely to climb again over the course of next year, LaFemina said.
