That is comparing apples to oranges. Assuming the country doesn't default, you know you are getting 100% of your principal back with a US Treasury. Nobody has a clue what the stock price of XOM will be in 10 years. If it is the same in 10 years as it is today, then you are getting closer to having an apples-to-apples comparison (assuming the dividend hasn't changed in the meantime). |
