Re: Welcome to PanemIt certainly spotlights the change in society. I have to admit to some puzzlement at the Summit News piece lead >Claims it has a ‘rich LGBTQ history’ despite previous ‘homosexual investigations’< http://summit.news/2023/06/09/cia-slammed-for-dystopian-pride-tweet/ I think what the underlying write-up cited was the CIA tweet >Pride Month is an occasion for all of us at the Agency to pay tribute to the rich history, community, and mission contributions of our LGBTQ+ officers,< The CIA has a complex history with this sexuality issue. Famously Director Dulles hid the numerous gays operating in the agency from the prying eyes of Senator Joe McCarthy. Dulles was the first to resist McCarthy's mojo by his protection of his agents and that elicited tremendous loyalty from the staff. He definitely bravely resisted McCarthy and was arguably the biggest reason McCarthy went down with the modest level of damage to the U S Govt that he wound up doing. So to that extinct the CIA might take pride in its LGBTQ+ history but it definitely got sacked by the Soviets use of the LGBTQ+ blackmail at which it was so effective. No details on my speculation about the gay agents in the Company but I'd guess they were probably the most loyal to Dulles of all. |
