They have a 50/50 chance of either getting the drug very soon, or - if ending up on placebo - getting it with everyone else after the possible approval at year's end or a bit after that. If as Sarepta has been saying that it will take a non-trial boy almost 5 months to get the insurance stuff all worked out, you're talking May 2024. A boy who takes the trial route and ends up with placebo has to wait 18 months before he gets the drug. So if he gets his fake shot in the next few months (July-August 2023), he would be ready to get is real shot (without the insurance hassles) between December and January 2024. So trial participants take their chances: you get the drug six months before approval or 6 months after approval. It's a perfectly fair gamble. And probably worth the gamble. So we should enroll and get it going very fast.
