Re: Consider buying ALB - too much hype over nuttin
<<<ARMN took a nose dive when it was pointed out that in their study that the control group was given something that raised their triglycerides and the relative reduction was made against the control group. The folks at the company said that comparable studies of other products did the same. So they all cheated. Still means the relative improvement isn't accurate. This is why I don't invest in pharms. You need to know too much to understand them and it's all or nothing. There is no in between. It's binary. >>>
The Mineral oil given was a binder and permitted by FDA for the control study "REDUCE-IT".
The whole point of the patients being on statins is to get their LDL-C under the 100mgs/dL recommended guideline range. The average LDL-C level at baseline was 76mgs/dL in the placebo arm. At the end of the trial after nearly 5 full years taking mineral oil the average LDL-C was basically the same - up a mere 7 points to 84mgs/dL. If absorption was an issue and the effect of the statins were being compromised you would see it clearly in the final LDL-C values. They would be well over 100mgs/dL in my opinion. The fact that the have remained well under the target of <100mgs/dL proves that the statins are being absorbed and are working just fine.
The body recognizes mineral oil for exactly what it is - pure gunk - and it gets rid of it without absorbing any of it - hence the healthy dose of diarrhea. Go digging on mineral oil/light liquid paraffin and you will find papers stating that it is not absorbed in the gut. I may do it myself but dont have the time today.
