Re: DONE!

Selene, I agree. I listened to her for the first time recently when I came across audio of that conference from two months ago. Not only was she not doing a good job explaining, she kept asking with a nervous laugh, "Has anyone left yet to put their money under their mattress?" or something to that effect which made it worse.
I've had to explain this issue a few times to people I know. You can't expect them to share your sense of urgency or to be convinced or even be as interested in the complex web of events/people as you are. What has worked is to give a very broad overview the first time, acknowledging how crazy and improbable it sounds without more information. Then, send them the juiciest tidbits and usually the other side will develop an interest and will ask for more information or do research themselves. I am pretty sure there is a marketing concept that goes with this and that's how it is in any human interaction. You don't convince the other side, you give them enough so that they take that last step themselves. That's how it went with my dad, who is as difficult an audience to convince as any I know. Last weekend they were visiting another couple. The wife isa finance professor and turns out my dad brought this up and she was intrigued. Of course, her immediate reaction was, "This is the kind of thing I assumed would go on in a developing market like China but not here". If we can convince her, she can in turn reach her students her colleagues, etc... and you let geometric growth do its job. That's the thing about being on the right side of an argument. You don't have to worry about keeping your story straight or plugging leaks or... (hear that, Gary?) Otherwise it is silly to think that a grassroots movement can outmanouver entrenched interests on Wall Street. It is still a long shot but with every day, our job gets a little easier and theirs, a little harder.
Happy holiday to you, too.
