Memorial Day in the United States—an underappreciated holiday. Let’s take a look at the sacrifice that Americans made in defending us. The American revolution started it all — 8,000 killed – 25,000 wounded. A few years later, the War of 1812 —2,200 killed – 4,500 wounded. Then the Mexican War in the 1840s — 1,700 killed – 4,512 wounded. The Civil War, the absolute worst – 650,000 Americans killed (on both sides) – 1.5 million wounded. The Spanish American War, 385 Americans killed, 1,600 wounded. World War I—53,000 dead – 204,000 wounded. World War II—291,000 Americans dead – 670,000 wounded. Korean War—33,000 dead – 92,000 wounded. Vietnam—47,000 dead – 153,000 wounded. The Gulf War—190 Americans dead – 849 wounded. The ongoing war in Afghanistan—180,033 dead – 23,000 wounded. Iraq—3,800 dead – 32,000 wounded. Memorial Day—think about it. Deep respect for all the military has done since the revolution. Not much respect for the modern media. Even when lives are on the line in a pandemic, it is hard to get honest information. Enjoy the weekend. |
