Big Stone GapHere are a few items regarding my little project: 1. The house is 4000 sqft rather than 3215. The third floor was not included in the realtor.com number. 2. A map from the 1880's has that whole hill where the house is located labelled as "Hotel" with a drawing of a grand resort on the corner of the map. That didn't happen. 3. It takes a long, long time for an electrical contractor to rewire a big old house. 4. It takes a general contractor a long, long, long time to sheetrock a big old house after holes were busted everywhere to rewire. 5. The work is slow, but I'm VERY HAPPY with the way it is turning out. 6. People here don't seem to talk about politics (unlike the McDonalds in Libby, MT). You see a LOT of patriotic signs, but the talk is akin to what you hear in Mayberry. 7. Mondays are special. It's Mater Monday at the Dari Delite when they serve Fried Green Tomatoes. It's Movie Night at the Visitor's Center, where they showed "Moana" last night. People here don't confuse "Moana" with "Marijuana". 8. The Visitor's Center is at Carmine's (featured in the movie "Big Stone Gap"). On the sidewalk outside they have the handprints of the actors and producer of the movie. 9. The town of Appalachia three miles down the road is pronounced APPLE ATCHA. Do not pronounce it APPA LAY SHA unless you are looking for a fight. Dis |
