Re: Are we being played? Today’s action makes me believe a settlement is in the worksI do not know about a buyout, but today's price action is now very common because of HFT. Institutions that want to accumulate shares, sell shares (sell and buy to itself really - this should be illegal). This triggers other sales that allows buying at a much lower price. The spike down to 15.90 and then rise back to 16.60 is an example. A physical analogy is that the rapid high speed trades are like heating a Boltzman gas. It takes much less (selling) pressure to move a heated gas than a colder (slower trades) gas. I think HFT should be illegal and Stiglitz one second (or some time period) periodic auction idea should be required by the SEC. |
