Diplomatic pressure I take it means jawboning the price of some oil producers ( in this case OPEC and/ or Saudi Arabia) to act against their own interest to please the president. This puts pressure on American high cost producers and in your view isn't putting America first. Pushing it below parity has no meaning unless you state equal to what. My thought was that you were intimating the price of oil should be artificially maintained at a level where US producers can make money to support that industry. If you think the free market should dictate the price of oil we are in agreement. If you think OPEC should use monopolistic means to raise the world oil price we disagree.
My point is that a free market world price for oil will not favor the high cost producers and place some domestic producers at economic risk due to poor business decisions. IMHO Axas is a case in point.
