Russia CAN NOT win a conventional war with the forces arrayed against Putin.
And, they can't use a nuke as they know that Russian cities will be utterly destroyed, too.

Imagine The Kremlin buildings split in two and blazing fires from within.
It might happen.

You can tell the allies smell the Russian blood and want to NOW bring this war to a more rapid close. The sanctions get worse in Feb and massive amounts of weaponry flows like a river to Kviv.

Putin has had NUMEROUS chances to withdraw.
The West is tired of Putin's obstinance.
