My end of year review of WNDWSolarWindow WNDW (market cap is $0.171B) INTRO Here's my semi-annual exercise to see if I remember why I own the stocks I own, and so I can check back and see if their stories have changed. I post in case it helps others too. Solar Window manufactures transparent solar panels that can act as windows. The conventional approach is to install opaque solar panels that must be mounted on top of existing roofs or as auxiliary structures separate from the primary structure, basically adding structural complexity. The trend in housing is towards more windows, office buildings have higher window-to-wall/roof area, and places like greenhouses are almost exclusively transparent. All of which is encouraging. I am a new shareholder with a small initial holding, so will research more deeply into efficiencies, competition, etc. I also live near the US/Canada border where the higher latitude means a vertical window can have better exposure than a horizontal roof. I have also been investing in innovative companies for decades, so recognize that a good story and a good technology is not always sufficient - but those are also the technologies that can be positively disruptive. DISCLOSURE Usually LTBH but only bought in within the last few months because NPTN announced a buyout. I bought in to redistribute the funds and increase my diversification. See the attached blog post for that decision process. https://trimbathcreative.net/2021/11/30/introducing-wndw-and-solo/ (I've also collected links to the other discussion boards and my other stocks over on my blog https://trimbathcreative.net/2021/12/31/semi-annual-exercise-eoy-2021/ ) |
