Re: IL governor on the current situation The same democrats who could not run a caucus in Iowa and thought that that the travel restrictions on people who had been in China was xenophobic, racist and irrational are unable to understand that each state caries the primary responsibility for disaster relief. When hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, democrats in power there sat down and refused to do much of anything - saying that the Federal government was responsible for disaster relief. The only thing the state officials really did was to block the efforts of private individuals who wanted to help. Basically, they said, it is all on you Federal government. Do your thing. Help the people of Louisiana. After which, they spent most of their time criticizing the Federal effort. Bush tried to get the federal government to do the relief effort instead of explaining to state officials that the State government is first in the relief efforts and it was on the state to primarily handle the relief and to request specific help from the Federal government for things they were unable to do. The Federal government supports the efforts of the state government. It is not supposed to take over from the state. The reason Federal emergency management and response works this way is because it was designed that way by Congress. And the US Constitution separates powers. I.e., those powers not delegated to the Federal government go to the State governments. Congress went along with that philosophy when writing the laws with regards to how Federal government disaster assistance would work. The states officials are supposed to have their own disaster response worked out. They are supposed to use their own resources for this. Then when those run out, they are supposed to work with federal officials and request specific help that they need from the Federal government that they cannot reasonably do themselves. Congress thought that the above type of federal relief efforts were logical when they wrote the laws creating the respective emergency management offices in government. They knew that state officials know what they need for local problems and that a bureaucrat that lives in Washington would not know. Now of course, some democrat governors in some states don't want the responsibility. Especially those states that have not prepared for various possible problems or for those that are most incompetent. Instead, they want to blame their own failures on the Federal Government. They want to be able to throw their hands in the air and say - hey, President Trump I want you to send someone to come manage the disaster. When you fail to do what I think you should be doing, then I can stand on the sidelines endlessly criticizing everything that you do and blame every death or problem on you. President Trump is not falling for the Democrat plans and is not going to take the blame for state government failures, state government incompetence or state governments wanting to turn over their responsibility and the entire cost to the Federal government. It is time for democrat governors to actually do some work instead of spending all their time trying to figure out who to blame for their failures. |
