With technological advances - the powers of both good and evil are amplified. 

 

Once a paradigm shifting advance in detailed scientific understanding and technological capability has become emergent - someone somewhere will use it for evil - and many will use it for good. You may suppress (or try to suppress?) such tinkering - but that effort is ultimately completely futile - if it is possible it will be done - the arms race between predator and prey is not going to stop. And let's face it - if we cannot come together globally over simple matters of resources, nuclear arms, sensible American Gun Laws, abortion, climate change and fair trade - how the fuck does anyone seriously think they are going to intelligently "manage" scientific and technological advances?

 

If it can be done - it will be done - and if we are going to survive - we better understand and stay on the cutting edge.
