Ya. Bad to waste - especially "magical" stem cells!
 
I think the opposition is based upon the thought of making babies just to be harvested for cells/organs (futuristically).
 
Of course there are those who base their opposition on religious dogma (this is where the placenta compromise originated?). I must say I favor the placental harvesting as it's commonly wasted after every(?) regular birth. No brainer (to me).
