Experiment in Fish Feed
In Scotland tests are being conducted using a genetically modified oilseed, Camelina which has omega-3 oils in order to boost the omega-3 content of farmed salmon whose nutritional value has been falling for 10 years. Due to the declining availability of fish in the oceans that can be made into fish feed, new sources must be found. By genetically modifying certain crops to produce omega-3 oils they hope to replace soy in the fish feed. They are testing to see if the salmon absorb the omega-3 oils or not.
