Testing for RSV using PCR (Red)
Red, just curious on your thoughts on the reliability of PCR for RSV in infants.
Momoney77, a medical professional, posted:
RSV PCR tests are accurate at detecting about 75% of cases. They miss 1 in 4. LARGE potential for error when we are comparing to such small numbers.
Isn't the PCR test initiated with the swabbing of the nose &/or throat?
Given that RSV is primarily a lower respiratory tract infection, isn't it possible that cases are missed in the swabbing process.
To your knowledge, what is the accuracy of PCR testing for RSV in infants.
Thanks.
