I hope your optimism is warranted. I just finished Siddhartha Mukherjee's THE SONG OF THE CELL. His last section "The Selfish Cell" dealing with cancer left me thinking cracking the cancer nut is hopeless, especially his observation that everything done to attack cancer stem cells also harms normal stem cells. If I had read this book 15 years ago I would never invest in companies targeting cancer (e.g., Intrexon, Precigen, Marker and others). Would have avoided significant losses.

Incidentally, I think Mukherjee's book is a useful read for readers of this board as well as thos boards dealing with immunology, gene therapy, and gene editing.
