Strong Sell

Re: the best album of all time

A great album should have an emotional impact over a wide variety of emotional states of the listener. No one album could ever be the greatest for all occasions, I don't think. Nevertheless, here's a list of albums I go back to quite often:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Santana - Abraxas

Those come close to all-occasion records.

Here's a few more that are excellent:

Terry Reid - Seed of Memory
Gene Ammons - Preachin' (Gospel, Sax, good on a Sunday morning)
Big Brother and the Holding Company - Cheap Thrills (Janice Joplin)
Camel - Mirage
Ry Cooder - Bop Till You Drop (some great, great songs)
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chooglin (long versions of songs)
James Gang - Thirds (I keep going back to this one, it's great)
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Self titled (I'm Up and I'm Leaving gives me chills)
Stephen Stills - Self titled (Think I'll Go Back Home, Black Queen)
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
Neil Young - Zuma
Eagles - Desparado
International Piano Festival - a benefit concert (released by the United Nations on the Everest label, on vinyl, two records)
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
Laura Nyro - The First Songs
Mason Williams - Handmade (I've Heard That Tear-Stained Monologue You Do There By the Door Before You Go, Tomato Vendetta, Classical Gas)
Fleetwood Mac - Kiln House
Doors - L.A. Woman

Then there's a bunch of songs that stand alone: Layla, Get Back, Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Hotel California, Life's Been Good to me So Far, California Girls, Back in the USSR, Bad Company, Rocky Raccoon, and even This Land is Your Land.

While compiling the list, I've been trying to think of the perfect song for SCO, but haven't come up with one. What songs speaks of imminent doom?
