TenCent may be working to support the gaming phone sector https://www.abacusnews.com/big-guns/tencent-wants-its-own-gaming-phone/article/3006188 Tencent is collaborating with phone OEMs -- Razer (boo) and possibly ROG (yay.) Significance is the positive projection of the gaming phone category. I don't see a positive other than TenCent optimizing it's games to work on phones -- which TenCent really needs to do just to keep Apple in its place...and therefore TenCent might be simply defensively reacting to Apple's moves, vs showing initiative. DeBonis vaguely flagged this possibility by stating that some of the work to remove lag would have to come from the server of the game itself. This might also nudge Razer to adopt IRIS, if TenCent is relying on a specialized chip to be present in the receiver phone. --- The article's headline (TenCent developing a gaming phone) is not supported by the text, and it would be out of character for TenCent to develop a competing product to their partners. |
