Q2 global market shareGlobal: EU: https://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/News/article/counterpoint-european-smartphone-market-takes-24pc-hit-due-covid-19 In china, Huawei's market share is growing fast, in part because of loyalty after the US war against it. Whereas, elsewhere, Huawei's market share is falling and Oppo Group/BBK and Xiaomi are growing. Samsung seems to be net losing market share, as the non-Huawei Chinese build good phones for less money. These Apple guys the article mentions seem to be doing well, and I'm going to check out who these Apple guys are and who owns them and whether they have a stock listed on any of the exchanges. I think BBK will grow the fastest, from their small base outside of India (in India, their brands are #1.) They tripled market share in EU in Q2 -- because of their low start base and adding a major EU carrier that had to start replacing Huawei. Just how important is the IRIS chip going forward to these guys? Reviews of the Nord identify that the screen isn't as good, and this partly due to a slightly worse screen. But, that it's noticed suggests to me that the absence of the IRIS chip is noticed. What does seem clear is that once an OEM has IRIS and has a superior screen tech, competitors at that price point have to compete at that new quality level. You can go forward, not backward. Good quality/price at the mid-level such as the Nord, or at the premium level, such as the 8. Given the price struggles that Samsung is having with their premium phones, Oppo has to find a way to get premium phones for a bit less cost, vs the FindX. |
