"I think any information is better than no information."
Not when that "any information" is incorrect and/or lacking a firm grip on reality
" If you don't have access to management with an emerging company, you really have no information or understanding of anything."
This might be the dumbest statement ive ever heard. What it speaks to is your inability to critically think and your absolute reliance on management. Management teams are not the most objective when it comes to their own businesses. If you believe Venture Capitalists have no idea or understanding of a company that is going to pitch them , then you are a bigger idiot than even i thought. VC's dont just hand over millions of dollars in capital to a company because they completely believe all the information a management team is spouting.
" if you don't want to try to understand the technology and its strengths and weaknesses."
Tell the board what are the weaknesses of the Sleeping Beauty Platform as an example.
" You just say I need proof. Well good luck beating the market if you always have to wait for 100% proof of everything."
Another idiotic statement. Does Warren Buffet invest in speculative stocks? how has he done in his lifetime. Inherent in investing in highly speculative story stocks like Intrexon is that most will fail so unless you have a sell discipline that cuts down on your losses, the last thing you will worry about is beating the averages.
lets take Intrexon as an example. You believed in the energy story from Intrexon. you regurgitated all the talking points from Management. you chose to accept a large risk that they would figure it out based on numbers that came from management that showed continual progress. for years you made prognostications which turned out wrong but the most egregious and self diluting error you made was believing that the market had it wrong as the pps fell year after year after year. you are down over 70% on your Intrexon investment because you didnt understand the real risks of the business.
Now lets see how the individual who decided to wait for the proof on energy, ie a partner signed up to build a plant, is doing... Pretty good by my estimations because not only did they not lose 70% on their capital like you have but they were able to invest that capital in another investment.
So quit looking around the poker table wondering who the sucker is Deadwood because its you. you just dont know it.
