As expected, SSYS turns DDD down. Not sure why it took them so long though.
SSYS management looks out for #1...which is SSYS management.
If SSYS now goes through with the purchase of DM, they'll end up choking on it. DM is mostly a scam. Only legit value might be the Exone piece. When DM purchased the company back in Nov, 2021 they bolted it on as a wholly owned subsidiary. Should be easy to carve it out since it was never comingled with other DM businesses.
Yet even the Exone business might prove to have a hollow center. All the best engineering talent likely bailed out of the company long ago.
SSYS will end up buying a crap ton of goodwill...which will ultimately have to be written off...leaving a big hole in the balance sheet.
Regardless, DDD wins here. They made it more expensive for SSYS to acquire DM. If the deal goes through, DDD's largest competitor will be saddled with a giant anchor. Besides, SSYS must continue to fend off the clowns from NNDM...while NNDM must continue to fend off its activist investors.
