About a year ago I wrote an
old post about the difference between vertical and horizontal gene transfer in bacteria in anticipation of the first genomics/AMR results SYN presented at DDW2017.
Well, I just came across this NYT article,
Using Harpoon-Like Appendages Bacteria 'Fish' for New DNA, that has a video of a bacterium grabbing a piece of DNA and bringing into the cell. The article explains that this is one way antibiotic resistance can be conferred. See it in action!
