UK shuts Moderna out This from this morning: Johnson & Johnson said its Janssen Pharmaceutica unit will supply Britain with its candidate, known as Ad26.COV2.S, with an initial sale of 30 million doses on a not-for-profit basis for emergency pandemic use. The advance purchase agreement will also provide an option for an additional purchase of up to a 22 million doses, it said. Separately, Novavax said Britain would buy 60 million doses of its vaccine candidate, NVX-CoV2373. Novavax will manufacture some of the vaccine using Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies facilities in Stockton-on-Tees, northern England. ***************************************************************************************** The leaders, time-wise in commencing phase 3 trials are AZN, PFE and MRNA. AZN and PFE have booked deals with the UK. Moderna has not. Today's new deals make 6 in total, 4 of which trail Moderna, time-wise. It's clear to me that the UK has shut Moderna out of its vaccine market. They may wait longer than Moderna might have been able to deliver, but the UK chose price over speed as either PFE or AZN can provide fast supply for priority people. So while Moderna spends it time concocting their fantasy estimation of what they think their vaccine should be "worth" (an exercise in arrogant narcissism), they are getting clobbered in the real world marketplace on price. |
