Re: Memories of our black Monday surface when I read this on ACAD.
IIRC, I had been following BIIB and first found out about ELN with the Tysabri combo
deaths. After looking into it, I thought it would recover and for once turned out to be right :) The follow up work was very good and the product finally recovered. This story anyway suggests the influence of baseless but passionate hopes replacing sound consideration of the evidence. Likely the drug sponsors are creating hopes beyond what is justified based on theory and evidence to date. This may be closer to the abeta antibodies but hard to tell from just this PR. I have my own theories about diseases associated with old age but given the responses I got earlier I won't waste my time in this forum, perhaps I can ramble over a beer ( and yes I have been drinking lol).
The risks of fatal infections with immunosuppression were well considered against the impact of the disease. I had earlier hoped that PML was related to combo therapy but even without that being the case, or at least an inability to identify all things it could combine with such as foods and herbs to increase risk, it did come back once the risk was determined to be acceptable.
I'm almost afraid to look into this with the Hamburg era FDA likely still having an impact on judgment and everyone afraid to criticize Obama decisions. Although I think Trump did support the "right to try" idea or at least some related conservatives
I'm not sure this is a good idea without more balanced data available to vulnerable patients.
