Re: From 8k / auto LiDAR targeting 2023 launches / acquiring company can generate cash ?I'm not going to argue against the fact that their timelines have slipped along the way. And ID didn't exactly materialize. Or anything else (except a little HL2 activity). But I think via updates along the way, they have indicated that consumer LiDAR would happen first, and auto LiDAR somewhat later. I think the most recent statement was consumer LiDAR product launches in 2021 (after previously suggesting earlier dates), and auto LiDAR product launches in 2023. The 1Q21 date for auto LiDAR samples is a slip from 4Q20 that was mentioned (and maybe previous slips also). The quote you posted is specifically about auto LiDAR, right ? They are close to the latest update for target date. But of course, the real issue is that regardless of vertical/product, they haven't sold anything in volume (or licensed anything selling in volume) such that mvis is self-sustaining, let alone nicely profitable. Recently, they are presenting things as though a buyer of the whole company, can leverage what they have done, and generate cash from this business. <<< Acquiring company would be able to generate cash from acquisition within 1-2 years with limited investment required to complete product. If that is the case, why isn't mvis staying independent ? Why is now the appropriate time to sell out ? (Unless maybe one believes some entity can be talked into paying a large price based on future potential. I don't tend to want to run with such an assumption, but maybe others see it as a justified risk.) Why not obtain that additional "limited investment" (funding), which shouldn't be too damaging (since they already have funds for part of that time), versus selling out at what will probably be a price more aligned with what they have actually demonstrated to date (instead of that unsupported above statement regarding 1-2 years to cash generation), unless they have solid business info they can share with buyers that we haven't seen ? Who knows with mvis, but I am guessing today we will hear more things intended to present mvis as a good investment for some entity, but they won't be sharing any details about the strategic negotiations beyond the usual statements about talking to multiple interested parties, etc. |
