Re: Reply that can not be posted to ihub ( I hope it can be posted here?) 1) Never even tried to post this. It was sent as a private reply. I attempted to start a discussion of MM practices a few years back after a couple of egregious incidents similar to the example and based upon a long whistle blowing diatribe by an ex-MM. I was chastised by the ihub administrators the new board was blocked and removed and I was told that if I tried to talk abot such things again I would be banned for life. Ihub Really does not want to hear criticism of MMs! 2) Genetic drift is made up nonsense based upon an article years back from another company that had not properly homologized its worms. Properly homologous gene regions present and identical on both DNA strands with proper leading and trailing sequences (as KBLB's are) Do Not Drift! Decreases in efficacy due to mutation are still possible but rates of mutation on Bombix Mori are very low and such events can be quickly and easily weeded out of the genome. NOT a problem. Not even a small problem. And no more likely in the current KBLB strains than in the standard worms where they have been controlled for thousands of years. Some early experimenters had genetic stability problems due to DNA instabilities induced by the earliest and crudest insertion tools, but the last 3 or 4 generations of tools used by KBLB and all others do not have this defect.
