Many states and municipalities prohibit DIY more and more. 

I can understand that hooking natural gas appliance should be done by a certified technician, and maybe some electric work too, but in many places you are not allowed to replace a kitchen faucet ...

 

I guess many states have hiked all those licensing and registration fees to new highs, and also moved many of those work types from 'labor, non-taxable' to 'Labor, taxable' category.

 

It is all about money, one way or another...
