1) 30 years ago, women participation rate was as high as today (or higher)... perhaps you want to go back further.

 

2) Might be fine when you have HUGE immigration and HIGH birthrate... and people died when they were 70  (5 years of retirement)... such that you had lots of young (men) to drive the economy with few dependents.

 

Meanwhile, standard of living increased, life expectancy and quality of life increased, USA was the most dynamic and innovative (with lots of ideas / inventions / businesses started by... women!).

 

Find one society in the world where women are held back that is thriving (economically, socially, or otherwise).
