Balsa fishing bobbers are now worth their weight in silverDid you know an 8 gram (they do sell them by the gram) balsa fishing bobber sells for about 5 bucks making it about worth its weight in silver? Same thing for many fishing lures stamped out of pot metal. Does this sound right to you? Is balsa now a precious substance? Are stamped fishing lures equivalent in value to stamped silver coins? Would you cast your silver into the river on a thin monofilament line … possibly losing it to the trees or other snag … is silver now as worthless as a bobber or lead sinker? I remember when the silver content in 40% silver halves dropped to near 50 cents, making a 40% silver half equal in value to a modern copper nickel half. Does this sound right to you? You could have traded all your modern copper nickel halves for 40% silver halves straight up. You could have traded all your Federal Reserve ious for 40% silver halves straight up. It didn’t sound right to me, and that ended up being near the bottom of silver around 2000. Sometimes the price of silver really gets so out of whack one has to sit up and notice. But you have to try to notice. That’s it for now I’m heading down to the river to collect lost fishing bobbers. |
