Re: Silver bars vs. coins-any opinion which is better to hold--premiums lower on bars-10 oz. and 100 oz? eom
I had a very large dealer tell me years ago that when silver is cheaper it's better to own ASE's as the premium wasn't so high. As the price goes up ASE's and 1 oz rounds premiums begin to merge together until there isn't much if any difference in price when silver gets expensive. After being skeptical but in the physical market for the last 14 years I have to admit that he is right. I currently own mostly 1 oz rounds... they come in a box of 500 oz's that's smaller than a monster box and easy to stack in a safe. However, I like ASE's. Real money and gov't guarantee so I still have several monster boxes of older ASE's-unopened and banded. FWIW, I've completely gotten away from bars as there's not really any reason for me to own larger chunks of silver that might be difficult to sell at some point. Just one man's opinion.
