My comment - You all know that I like junk silver. Constitutional junk silver was minted before 1965. U.S. mint coins are easily recognized and in my opinion will be useful for bartering in the future.
Silver paper spot price is bouncing around $23 temporarily. I expect much higher spot price next month after options expiry. Physical silver in the form of American Silver Eagles (ASE) still have a premium attached and are running anywhere from $30-35. The U.S. mint is selling a ASE 2020 one ounce silver uncirculated coin for $54. America the Beautiful Quarter 2019 Silver Proof Sets are being sold on the U.S. Mint website for $36.95. The 2020 Quarter Silver Proof Sets are being sold for $42.50.
What I have discovered is that from 2019 onward, the silver proof coins in mint sets are made from .999 instead of 90% silver. 5 of these .999 quarters adds up to just under 1.02 troy oz of silver. There are 5 quarters in each year's set. You can actually get a 2019/2020 silver quarter proof set on ebay for less than a single ASE.
I just scored 15 sets for $26.95. Total cost $422.20 with $17 shipping. So $28.00 final cost for each oz.
2019 Quarter SILVER Proof Set ATB - NO BOX or COA
Before I found that deal I had purchased (2) 2019 silver proof sets for $33 each. After my purchase I saw some still open on eBay for $29.95 each.
Junk silver is personal preference investment to preserve wealth. In this current environment I am happy to be picking up .999 pure physical silver U.S. mint for $27 an ounce plus shipping.
Thought I would share this information on the board for those who also stack junk silver. Another option I was previously not aware of while the paper spot price is below $30.
