Ramirez UpdateIt's been a few months since the last update, and my carrier pigeons to Houston returned bearing no news. At this stage in the proceedings, one wouldn't want to ruin any potential development with idle chatter. So, here's some idle chatter. Notice the phrase from the filing above: "discussions with third parties relating to possible financing to support the Company’s efforts to continue its collection efforts or to monetize all or part of the default judgment to realize immediate value for its stockholders." One could read this and think, "Ramirez is digging in, and should he eventually win his motion to set aside the verdict (however unlikely), he will stretch the process out as long as he bloody can." If this happens, look for Harvest to bring on a partner in the collection, or sell the award outright. Or, those words could mean that the giant thief is finally ready to sit down and negotiate a settlement. If he stole $11B, what is a measly $50M payout? The next big motion hearing is next month, but here's another good read in the meantime: If any more information comes my way, I will try to keep everyone here (all 4 of us) up-to-date. For my $ (even with a deal w/ the Feds), I highly doubt Ramirez wants to say anything under oath, given the massive civil liability he could face in the US & VZ. He should have plenty of reasons to seek a solution out-of-court, no matter what the price tag. Sisyphus |
